Annual Events
Memorial Day Parade and Service
The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars jointly sponsor the Memorial Day Parade and Service. The event is held on the fourth Monday in May, with the parade starting at 9:30 a.m. and the service at 10:00 a.m. The parade assembles in front of the American Legion Hall and ends at the Clinton High School where the service is held.
Participants in the parade include the American Legion and the VFW, both the junior and senior high bands, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, members of local volunteer fire departments, officers from the Clinton Police Department, public officials, children riding decorated bicycles, and others. The VFW Auxiliary sponsors a bicycle decorating contest and gives prizes in various age groups. The service includes the Pledge of Allegiance led by a Boy Scout, performances by both bands, recognition of local area military veterans of all wars, a firing squad salute, and taps.
Fourth of July Celebration
The Turtle Community Organization sponsors the Fourth of July Celebration as a fundraiser for a number of different projects. The celebration is held on the weekend closest to the Fourth of July at the Sweet-Allyn County Park in Shopiere. Major activities include a tractor pull on Saturday, a dance on Saturday night and a parade and fireworks on Sunday.
The celebration also has a fishing contest, bike race, running race, volleyball tournament, softball tournament, children's games and contests, beauty contest, arts and crafts show, and refreshments. Proceeds from the celebration have been used to help fund scholarships for area students, running of the historical clock in Shopiere, and a number of charitable organizations.
Sidewalk Sale
Held on a Saturday in mid-July and sponsored by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, the Sidewalk Sale involves downtown merchants offering special prices for their merchandise, which is displayed on the sidewalks and street. A variety of community organizations often have fund-raising booths along Allen Street in conjunction with Maxwell Street Day.
Kiwanis Pancake Day
Held on a Saturday in late November or early December at the Clinton Senior High School, Kiwanis Pancake Day is a major fundraiser for the Clinton Kiwanis Club. Pancakes are served from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and typically 700-900 people are served. Funds raised are used for scholarships, playground equipment, intramural basketball, the food pantry, and other charitable causes. In addition, the proceeds are used to send a boy to Badger Boys State and a girl to Badger Girls State.
Homespun Holiday Craft Show
Sponsored by the Junior Women's Club, the Homespun Holiday Craft Show is held at the Clinton Senior High School from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday in late November or early December. First held in 1971 as primarily a bake show, the event evolved into a craft show. The show has grown in size over the years, so that by the early 1990s the show had over 80 booths displaying a wide variety of crafts. The show draws people from various parts of southern Wisconsin. Refreshments and child care are available, and a raffle is held at 3:00 p.m.
