Services for Senior Citizens
Clinton Senior Citizens, Inc.
Clinton Senior Citizens, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose primary purposes are to provide services, information and sociability to Clinton area residents age 60 or older. First established in 1963, the organization has been subleasing the American Legion Hall since 1981. The majority of the organization's funding comes from the Village of Clinton and from Rock County government. Other funds are provided by contributions from the Townships of Clinton and Bradford, individual donations and fund-raising projects.
The organization's senior center is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a hot meal served daily at 12:00 noon. Reservations for the meal must be made in advance, and a donation is suggested. Periodically there are speakers or other programs after the meal.
Examples of services available at the center are:
- Consultation with a Benefit Specialist from the Rock County Council on Aging - the first Monday morning of each month. Seniors are assisted with a variety of paperwork, e.g. filing insurance claims, applying for PartnerCare, establishing a living will, and filing for Homestead Property Tax Relief.
- Blood Pressure Checks - Available from a local volunteer on the second Monday morning of the month.
Referrals are also available to a number of other services, such as homemaker home health aides, hospice care, respite care, visiting nurses, and other programs.
The center also offers weekly exercise classes and both weekly and monthly card groups. Many senior drop by the center regularly to meet friends, play cards, shoot pool and do puzzles. There are also a variety of out-of-town outings organized through the center.
The newest service available from the center is a specialized transit van which is handicapped accessible. For a fee, seniors can be transported in the van to medical appointments, grocery stores, banks, the social security office and certain other locations. Individuals wishing to use the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Driver Escort Service should contact the center to get information about this service.
Rural Meals-on-Wheels
The Lutheran Social Services - Rock County operates a Rural Meals-on-Wheels program that serves older people in the Clinton area. People interested in being served by this program need to call the Lutheran Social Services, which has staff to make home visits to determine the individual's need for such a service. The meals are provided by volunteer drivers Monday to Friday at noon except for major holidays or in cases of bad weather. Additional drivers are always appreciated.
Visiting Nurse Association
The Visiting Nurse Association offers a wide range of home health care services, ranging from skilled nursing services to home companion services. Other services include blood pressure screening, blood glucose screening, friendly visitor programs, caregiver support group, and education and information services. The association serves residents of Rock County and western parts of Walworth County.
Living Arrangements for Older Adults
Most older people in Clinton and the surrounding area live independently in their own homes. For those who choose or need to have another type of living arrangement, there are two alternatives in Clinton.
Meadow Park Nursing Home
Meadow Park Nursing Home is a 99-bed skilled nursing facility located on the village's northwest side which provides quality long term care to the elderly and people with physical disabilities. Locally owned and operated, the home was established in 1970 as a 74-bed facility and expanded to 99 beds in 1983. Meadow Park offers 24 hours/day nursing service, home-cooked meals and a wide variety of activies.
Elder Lane
Established in 1991 by a private organization called Community Care Alternatives, Elder Lane is operated as a community based residential facility (CBRF) and is licensed to serve 19 residents. Like a nursing home, this facility is licensed by the state, but it does not provide nursing care. Residents of the home are primarily the frail elderly, who receive family style meals and have staff available to assist them with their daily routines. Nurses and other health care specialists are available on a consultant basis.
